Dogs, Cats and Dentists

Today is my last day of work for this week, and it is a short day because I have an emergency visit to the dentist. I don’t know about you, but I really dislike going to the dentist. I like my dentist, I really do, but the poking, prodding, and the noises really stress me out. I always walk away feel sore at the gums.

On Sunday, I broke my bottom retainer. Like completely out of my mouth (it’s a bridge glued in to my teeth).

So, instead of freaking out about it, I am going to look at these cute pictures of my lovely snuggle-buddies, and think happy thoughts about what I will get on Black Friday.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures. I know the pups are a big stress reliever for me. What do you do to relieve stress?

Can’t wait for Thursday!

A taste of elegance: Chanel

The past few days have been a whirl-wind of rushing from one fun event to the next. Since this weekend was a blast, but left me feeling very low on the energy scale, my best friend Annie has graciously written a guest post for me. Enjoy!

————————————————–

“Wow, you look fancy today,” said one of my favorite fourth period students.

“Yeah,” chimed in another. “Are you going out tonight?”

“No,” I said. “Stop asking awkward questions. Can’t I look alright sometimes?”

“You can,” Student #1 mused. “But you don’t always.”

This is what my morning fashion process looks like now:

1. Get up at the ass crack of dawn, rub off last night’s makeup that I forgot to take off because I fell asleep grading essays.
2. Shower while trying to figure out what the hell I’m going to teach to my first period class. Sometimes forget to use my expensive salon conditioner because I’m going over the difference between predicates and prepositions.
3. Mentally create worksheets as I rifle through a goddamn avalanche of clothing (which is not kept in the closet, but helpfully spread out on the floor should I suddenly collapse from the onset of anemia).

4. Try to remember if I have essays hidden somewhere in my house as I put on the least smelly clothes I have been able to forage. Laundry is a thing that happens once a fiscal quarter.

5. Haphazardly put on makeup as I drive to work, occasionally forgetting that I have only completed work on one eye and being mocked by my students until some angel in fourth period dutifully informs me of my deficiency.

How could this happen to me, to ME? Five years ago, I was living it up at the BCBG New York Fashion Week after party, trying to pretend I was old enough to be drinking. Now, it’s a good week if I don’t wear the same pants three times. But just as things looked their darkest, something new entered my life, something capable of breaking the downward spiral and restoring me to my former glory.

I’m talking about makeup.

I have discovered that one of the secrets of the universe is that even if you have unwashed, flipping-the wrong-way hair, crumpled clothes, and an unfortunate musty odor about your person, this can all by transformed with a coat of red lipstick and dramatic eyeliner. And purple mascara. All of which I now own, courtesy of Chanel.

But wait, I can hear you thinking, Chanel is so pretentiousI can’t afford that! And my response to you is a) yes it is, and b) you can’t afford not to be buying this.

I went to the Chanel counter for makeup trials with a friend, and when I asked her if I should buy the bronzer, she said “I think you can probably get that cheaper somewhere else.” My makeup artist injected here to give my friend the hairy eyeball from up high and said, “Honey, of course you can get it cheaper elsewhere. This is Chanel.” And I scoffed then, thinking this was arrogance at its finest and that she needed to take her product a little less seriously. But when I got home and tried it, I realized why this woman went all Grand Duchess on my friend – Chanel is, quite simply, the best. It stays where you put it until you take it off. It goes on smoothly, silently, and deadly. It does what is promised. And it looks like it’s going to last just as long as they said it would, which is roughly 230,947,202 years.

Here’s what I bought/recommend:

-liquid eyeliner

-red lipstick

-foundation

-lipliner (I use it as an ombre lip effect and also bottom eyeliner

-purple mascara

My makeup artist also taught me a little trick that has really changed the way I do my makeup. Instead of using eyeliner on your bottom lid edge, you can use a dark brown or dark purple eye shadow and a small brush to gently dot it on. This softens your eye and prevents raccoon eyes or dark circles. I would have bought an eyeshadow palette, but I already have about 20 Lancome eyeshadows at home, many of which are perfect for this use.

Anyway, I hope that this makeup review will help you continue to not do laundry and be lazy about your style choices, just like it has done for me!

Happy Monday! I only have a two-day week, but I am still counting down the hours til my break begins. Are you doing that as well?

Stockings Holders, Ornaments, and Trees

When I was younger, we often decorated our house for Christmas on the same day that we got our Christmas Tree. Getting our Christmas tree though, was always an adventure!

We would pile into our big, comfy, green Ford Explorer, and head into the mountains. After getting lost for a few minutes we would discount the first few tree farms, because predictably they would be picked over. We would settle on a farm, grab our jackets, put a leash on our pup, and head into the wet wintery forest. Finding the perfect tree has become somewhat of a routine. We can’t go with the first tree we find, because there might be a better one out there. We usually haggle over the final tree, because I want a Charlie Brown tree, while the family wants a wide, large tree with evenly spaced out boughs. I wanted the homeliest tree out there, to take home because no one else would. Often, I lose the vote and we get a tree that is tall, wide, and barely fits on our car, let alone in the family room.

When my brother and I went away to college, sometimes we got our tree closer to Christmas, sometimes we would even pick one Thanksgiving weekend. Last year, we joined with another family for the Christmas tree selection, and it was a blast. This year, we plan on going with the Issa Family again, the Saturday after Thanksgiving. When we picked a tree during Thanksgiving break, we also decorated the house.

Now that I have my own place, I have been itching to get cute Christmas decorations. I have been resisting these cute things for a few days now, but I might give in!

My mom and I were the two that usually were anxious to pull out the Christmas Boxes and decorate the whole house. I usually was in charge of the Christmas Tree decorations, while either my dad or my brother did the lights on the tree. To this day, decorating the tree is one my of favorite holiday rituals. I love that the holidays are finally here.

Happy Wednesday!

Sunday in Capitola

Rather late Saturday night we moved the party to Beach House #2 (BH#2) and continued on very late into the night. I snagged a bed and crashed about 2am, rather late for this old lady who prefers 10pm sharp.

On Sunday I woke up bright and early. Often my internal alarm clock wakes me up when I would rather have slept in. I started on breakfast for the group and enjoyed watching people stumble in, semi-awake. After a while, the group was fed and drowsy. We tidied up the house, and some people took of. The smaller group left for the beach. Annie, Sunny, Huyson and I wandered along the beach, snagging cute photos of each other. We walked around the down-town area and picked up some tasty ice cream. We tidied the house and left for home.

It was a great weekend.

I wish more were like that, full of sunshine, fresh air and friends. I am so looking forward to Thanksgiving foods next week, it is powering me through this week, knowing next week will be fantastic and full of yummy foods!

Instantly Awesome

Six months I had only a limited understanding of how awesome Instagram was. In July, one of my friends pushed me into getting an Instagram, and I have totally fallen in love with it.

I love photos, and Instagram fills the time waiting in line, for people to arrive, the few minutes before staff meetings, basically anytime. I love that people have their own unique style in how they style their photos, from the framing to the filter. Recently I’ve been pushing myself to take more photographs, and having a place to post them in addition to my blog has been a lot of fun. I also really enjoy looking at other peoples photos. Its kinda an addition

Here is how my last week end from my Instagram account, which you should totally follow: Foreverclassyandfabulous

You might notice a continuing theme of yummy treats, sweets, the pups, and shopping.

Kiel James Patrick

Over the last year I have watched this fantastic company called Kiel James Patrick grow. Run by Kiel and his girlfriend Sarah Vickers, and their team of friends make bracelets, belts, shirts and purses all in their adorable factory. Sarah has a blog called Classy Girls Wear Pearls, and has fantastic style. Recently they gained Brooks Brothers as their sponsor, which means I can wander into the Brooks Brothers here on this coast and peek at some of their products. I purchased this bracelet in March, and this bag in July. I love both.

They have released all sorts of cute bow bracelets and I need some help making up my mind. Which ones do you like? Which one would go with the most outfits?

Cold Weather but Warm Toes

I love that it is boot season!

Lately the weather here has been all over the map. Typical crazy California weather! It is cold in the mornings (like 40) and warms up to about 70-75 during the day. I feel like I should change my outfit just because of how warm and sunny it gets in the afternoon.

So, I wear lots of layer to combat this weird weather. I’ll often have a cardigan, jacket and or fleece with a skirt and boots.

But I have noticed that some of my socks from last year are looking…a little too well-loved. This is only my second season wearing boots, I know, I was late to join the trend!

I have started to keep an eye out for cute socks as I only have a few pairs of knee high and want to have options for the whole week. Especially as I plan to hunt for more cute boots. You can never have too many pairs of shoes, right?

I have seen these cuties online, but I might have to check them out in person to see if they are as soft as they look!

What do you think is the best to wear with boots? How long do your long socks usually last? Where is the best place to get some cute socks?

Ps. I also got the super cute ring-holder from my mum’s best friend, photos coming soon!

All In-Vested

A few weeks ago, the Roomie and I hit the mall on the first day of a long weekend. We did some serious damage! The Roomie walked away with a super cute red vest from Gap, and she raves about it. I was jealous then, and still plan on getting a red one myself at some point. I picked up my first down vest last year from J.Crew and now I am totally on the vest train! Pinterest has been showing me all sorts of cute mixes of collared shirts, sweaters and vests in cute but bold color schemes. I like wearing vests because they keep me warm in the morning, but later in the day they are easy to take off when it warms up.

I have been loving these vests, and have really been holding back on getting every single one of them!!

Do you have any vests? Do you love  them as much as I do? Do you like any of these vests? Would you get any of them?

I am thinking about making a board on Pinterest solely for outfits involving vests!

Gold Dots Errrywhere

Ever since I saw this gold notebook in a Kate Spade email, I have been seeing gold dots everywhere.

Initially I was like eh……over-rated!

BUT, they have been growing on me. And…now, I love them. I’m not really sure how it happened, but they are officially awesome.

Like these:

How do you feel about gold dots? Have you caught onto this crazy style?

Chaos, Engraved Pencils and Classroom Decorations

This week at work was insane!

Granted, I had been gone most of the previous week, but still! This week was all over the place between giving benchmark tests, CELDT testing/ PSAT testing, and grades due as the quarter ends Monday. I had put a lot of time in to get everything organised for Wednesday, which was the day the whole school was in testing.

Seniors worked on college apps and essays. Juniors took the PSAT test. Sophomores were with my CELDT team testing and Freshman were taking their annual PE test. It started off well, but then twenty minutes into testing everything exploded. Our CELDT booklets did not match our administration booklets,  which was a crucial step as much of the test is read aloud to the students. After running around like a chicken with my head cut-off our amazing district testing admin noticed that there were three testing versions in the book, and we were on the wrong one. With that simple fix we were back on track. I had spent so much time organising students, training my test proctors and sectioning out the answer sheets, test booklets and pencils that it never occurred to me to check that we had multiple versions. Oh well!

For most of the week I have been working on getting my classroom settled. They will start on drawing a still life next week,  and I just finished backloading all the lessons we had done in the last four weeks into a while you were out binder. Additionally, BITSA and staff development has been taking up time as well. But on Friday I felt like I had finally found ground beneath my feet.

This whole week I have had a cold and this morning I finally gave in. I slept in till 10 (!!!) and it felt glorious. I swifferjet the apartment, tidied up my room, did laundry and ironed, baked banana raisin bread and cornbread. I watched Now You See Me and Iron Man 3 (i loved both of them!).

While watching tons of tv I looked over the internet for some fantastic wall art.

I have been loving these three!

One of my favorite thing used to be getting back to school supplies before school started. There is something about having engraved pencils, cute notepads, a fresh backpack and a rockin’ fall closet that makes the start of school that much better! These just keep popping again and again on my Pinterest and I love them all!

Have any suggestions as to where to get some great wall art? Any good band or art posters you just can’t get enough of?

Let me know where!

I hope you are taking a break and getting some you time this weekend!

Love,

-S
