on my radar June

Hello Friends!

Here is what’s on my radar for June. A few fun videos (Adele!) and two things on my wishlist. Enjoy.

Watching:

Carpool Karaoke! I’ve loved all the videos, but I think this one is the best one yet. Adele is such #goals. She is so down to earth, but still amazing. Apparently they drove around for a couple of hours and cut it down to this. I love her little laugh in the middle of the first song, and didn’t know she played the drums.

Norwegian Ad: This ad was so sweet and so well done.

Alike: This super creative film also brought me to tears.  The ending is perfect.

Wanting:

Onzie Yoga Bra’s: I’ve been going to hot yoga pretty often now, and am finding that a few of my workout clothes needed a refresh. This one has a pretty back, which I usually go for in my yoga tops. They have a bunch of cute ones, like this pink one, this black criss-cross one. I have to hold myself back from ordering every single color!

Pendent Necklace: I tend to like every basics for jewelry, but this little necklace on Baublebar caught my eye. Might be a perfect back to school present in the fall!

How’s your June going so far?

Life Lately

Hello Friends!

The end of the school year is closing just like any other- with a flurry of activity and events! I’m so looking forward to summer, some fun trips planned, lots of sleep and working out hopefully! I’d love to get back on track with regularly working out, grading has taken a bit of a priority lately as I only have a few days left with my seniors.

So here is a quick view into what has been going on in the last few weeks.

I had our apartment handyman put up some shoe shelves for me, and my Type-A heart is so happy. I can see them all so I know what I haven’t work recently, and it’s wicked easy to put them back as I can quickly spot an open space on the shelf.

I went with O to the farmers market a week or two back and these strawberries were out of this world good and so bright in color.

I chaperoned a field-trip to Chinatown in San Francisco and we got dim sum and fortune cookies. So tasty!

My family has finally figured out how to make the best chilaquiles ever! Yum.

I just got back from a whirlwind weekend in Seattle for an amazing wedding to two cuties, so that post will be coming soon. How is your week going?

Love,

Netflix Reviews

Recently I’ve been into watching Netflix documentaries on the fashion industry. I love that Netflix allows you to rate a movie that you have seen, and then gives you similar movies to watch.

A few that had popped onto my radar, that I ended up watching over the last few weeks were the following: The September Issue, The First Monday in May, Dior and I, and Yves Saint Laurent.

The September Issue

I ended up liking this movie a lot more than I thought I would. It really gives you a great “behind the scenes” feeling to Vogue, and I learned a lot about the process and timeline of making a magazine issue. I really enjoyed seeing the different dynamics between the different editors and Anna Wintour. I also loved seeing Anna interact with her daughter, who is most decidedly not going to follow in her famed footsteps.

The First Monday in May

I really enjoyed the cinematography of this movie. It follows Andrew Bolton who is the Costumes Institute Curator at the Met prepare the 2015 China Through the Looking Glass exhibit for the Met Gala. They did a beautiful job showcasing the amazing art in the collection, and the detailed and delicate process of curating such a large exhibit. It is a star studded event, so it was fun to see the drama of the seating chart dilemmas. I’ve always been a big fan of watching this event on television, so I liked seeing how intricate and how early they start developing a theme and plan for the Met Gala.

Dior and I

Dior and I followed the Christian Dior Fashion House as fashion designer Raf Simons prepares his first haute couture collection. This movie had none of the glitz and glamour of the first two movies, instead it showcases the labor of love the seamstresses and designers really have for the craft. My favorite part was seeing all the exterior shots of the different French buildings.

Yves Saint Laurent

I was really expecting to like this movie. Netflix had given me three hits, so why wouldn’t this movie be more of the same? Sadly, I didn’t really enjoy this movie. I struggled through watching it. The main character Yves seemed immature and odd. The only character I felt like was well developed was his business partner and lover played by Guillaume Gallienne. The famous designers demons are in full force in this movie, and I felt it really detracted from the great art of his work: designing his couture line. Sometimes movies with subtitles are harder to follow sometimes, and perhaps that added difficulty to understanding the scenes. The scenes where they filmed in France (The InterContintental and Avenue Marceau ) were gorgeous.  I would say if you have a bunch of free time, and don’t mind his vices of drugs, drink and sex, then go for it. Otherwise, skip this one. The first three movies were much better. Sorry Netflix, this movie was a total miss for me.

Have you watched any documentaries lately? Any that you would recommend?

Scarfs Galore

Now that it is officially fall/winter, I have been reaching for clothes that are soft, fuzzy, but most importantly, warm!

It was pretty cold on my way to work this morning, so being warm enough at work has become a very important goal when I pick out my clothes the night before ( I don’t have heat in my office, but I do use a small space heater at my desk). I have been reaching for scarfs, and layering them over cute collared shirts. While I have some scarfs, most have patterns, and I have been longing for more simple or classic color choices. For me, they also take the place of a necklace, so makes my mornings go a bit quicker when considering my accessories.

So many cute choices now that winter has arrived! I like infinity scarves because I don’t have to figure out how to tie them/knot/arrange them in a elegant manner at o’dark thirty. You put them on, and settle them around your neck, and you are done.

Jcrew fall arrivals

Hello!

I was looking at things on J.Crew recently and I WANT ALL THE THINGS. They have been hitting it out of the park with their Fall Arrivals, and I might have ordered one or two things in between grading work. Oops!

Shirts

Shoes

Outerwear

J.crew Cape

J.crew Excursion Vest

Anything above that you liked and would add to your closet? I seem to go through cycles at J.Crew where I love everything one year and the next find the patterns too bright/busy.

Currently Lovin’

Hello loves,

I had a great weekend. A good mix of friend time, exercise and family time. I love long weekends! Were you able to fit in a little bit of time for everything that you wanted to? These are all the things I’m currently wishing were in my closet.

I tend to wear a lot of black pants to work when I do choose to wear pants, which is mostly in the winter time when it’s too chilly for skirts and dresses. I think these flats seem perfect with black pants for fall, and I love a good cap toe. I’m trying to decide which I like more: the burgundy, the beige, or the grey! Which do you like? Which would you were the most to work?

How cute would this purse be with an all black outfit? Or a cute plaid shirt and jeans? I’ve been looking to invest in a cute blue purse, but haven’t yet pulled the trigger. I ended up getting my work purse for the new school year from them, and have loved it so far! It’s sturdy, roomy and the navy color gorgeously goes with everything. Do you have a blush purse yet?

It’s starting to be pretty chilly here in the mornings as I head off to work, and even though this sweater is out of my budget (#teacherlife) I love the look of it.

Off the Shoulder Sweater

The off the shoulder sweater look is a notch above a regular sweater, and can take a great classic creamy sweater from night to day easily.

What do you think about these pieces? Do any of them belong in your closet?

Girls Day at the Beach

So this is a few snaps from the last week! It’s only been one short week of summer, but I’ve packed a lot in.

Three beach days in one Week!
Sun Hats

A and I hitting up the beach on Tuesday. Sun hats are crucial to not ending up with a sunburnt nose!

Summer Sunsets

We’ve had some pretty amazing sunsets here in San Jose, and I tried to capture the gorgeous colors we got last week!

Capitola

We had a lovely mellow Father’s Day in Capitola with the whole fam (including the dog!) at a dog friendly beach, followed up by yummy food at Gayle’s Bakery.

How was your week? Do anything fun or summery?

Girls Spa Day

Two years ago A and I went up to the city to spend a day at a Spa. We loved it so much that we booked another day there this year. We started off at Cocoon Urban Day Spa with massages, and finished with a mani-pedi’s. I felt so relaxed after it was all done, perfect for heading into the week before AP exams! The whole place is beautiful and calming, with tea and cookies while you wait. I went for summery colors.

We followed our spa appointments up with a delicious dim sum lunch at Yank Sing. We took some silly photos while we were waiting for a table.

I find taking a Sunday day off from babysitting and grading to be with a girlfriend is exactly what  I need heading into a stressful time at work. I feel like the week starts off so much easier!

How do you find time to relax and unwind?

Brunch Parties

IMG_0115

There are only a few people in my life, that are true hostess’s. Meaning, they love the cooking, the prep, the stress and the fun of throwing a really, really, good party. My good friend A, is one of those people. Last weekend, she had an intimate brunch with just a few of us. It was a posh brunch, so I enjoyed the chance to go all out!
d1cb7b96-37ad-4ba4-bd7e-49e557a24e51

I loved all the decor, from the handwritten AND watercolored menu’s and food labels to the bouquets of flowers lining the table to the mimosa bar! I feel like it’s only in the last two years that a few of us have really matured in adults who throw fabulous dinner parties, and in this case, a fabulous brunch.

IMG_0110

A is a devoted chef, and the food was the highlight of the morning next to the mimosa bar! My personal favorite was the fig and pistachio tart (pictured below!), but really everything was delicious.

And finally, the people are what make the event fun. A has a great group of friends, and that helps!

I think I might steal a few of her ideas and host my own fun brunch over the summer. What do you think of hosting friends for brunch? Any must have brunch food ideas?
