November Playlist

Hello Friends,

I love making playlist. I can get lost in the depths of my Itunes library for hours making the perfect “mixtape”. I like having certain playlists for different activites: cleaning my house, driving to and from work, during a run, etc. So this playlist is to welcome in November, so there’s some moody, quieter music that makes me want to have tea and make cookies!

Have any songs that evoke winter-y, need a cuppa tea feelings for you? Let me know in the comments below!

Scarfs Galore

Now that it is officially fall/winter, I have been reaching for clothes that are soft, fuzzy, but most importantly, warm!

It was pretty cold on my way to work this morning, so being warm enough at work has become a very important goal when I pick out my clothes the night before ( I don’t have heat in my office, but I do use a small space heater at my desk). I have been reaching for scarfs, and layering them over cute collared shirts. While I have some scarfs, most have patterns, and I have been longing for more simple or classic color choices. For me, they also take the place of a necklace, so makes my mornings go a bit quicker when considering my accessories.

So many cute choices now that winter has arrived! I like infinity scarves because I don’t have to figure out how to tie them/knot/arrange them in a elegant manner at o’dark thirty. You put them on, and settle them around your neck, and you are done.

On My Radar for October

Hello Friends,

There are so many good things going on right now!

Luke’s Diner [Gilmore Girls Revival]

Town Updates

I cannot wait for the release of the new Gilmore Girls episodes. It’s on my rainy day to-do list to rewatch the last season (or many three…) to prepare for the release after Thanksgiving. To hype the upcoming even, many coffeshops were transformed into mini Luke’s diners, and guys, IT HAPPENED ON MY BIRTHDAY. It’s like they knew my extreme love for this show. It was kinda a crazy day for me, so I didn’t get to make it over to one of the coffee shops (there were only 2 decorated here in the Bay) but a girl can dream! There’s also a web-page (linked from photo above) that is all about the fictional town of Stars Hollow that is also pretty darn cute.

Jackie- Natalie Portman [Movie Trailer]

I’m hoping I can convince my mom to come see this movie with me. The acting looks amazing, I’m sure the style and clothes on point, and just the history behind it is so important. Let’s make it a dinner & a movie plan, okay Mom?

Calvin Klein Trenchcoat

Every winter I get look at coats and try to pick up a new one. Usually I wear them into the ground. My mom does a great job on cleaning up whatever art messes I get on it (#teacherlife) but usually it looks like it’s been through a rough messy life by the end of one California winter in an art classroom. I’ve been looking online and I kinda love the Aubergine color, what do you think?

Gwyneth Paltrow’s NY Apartment for Sale

So I first heard about this article on Young House Love’s Podcast. They play this fun game where the husband describes multiple things in a category (some true, some false) and the wife has to guess what’s a lie. It’s great and funny and this time it was about the sentences used to describe rooms in Gwyneth Paltrow’s apartment, which is now up for sale. I love the photos, the styling of the apartment, and the excessive use of carrera marble in her kitchen. Check it out and let me know what you think of her design style in the comments below!

Pixar Short: Borrowed Time

I adore Pixar. Their ability to tell a story (for example Ellie’s life story in Up) is absolutely incredible and I saw this short recently. It is much darker than their normal shorts, but still captivating. I might have shed a tear over one particular moment. Have you seen any of their other shorts?

I still need to decorate my little apartment for fall. It was a busy first few weeks with my birthday, the freshman sleepover, Open House, grades being due etc!

How’s your October going?

Love,

-S

Turning 28

Hello Friends, My birthday fell on a Wednesday, which was pretty exciting to liven up a midweek day. My co-workers were very sweet, and got me flowers, balloons and even a chai tea latte (they know my love of chai … Continue reading

Class of 2011

Hello Friends!

The first weekend in Oct. my university had their reunion weekend. It’s a big event at Santa Clara that runs from Thursday through Sunday. I had reached out to a few alumni friends that I still keep in touch with, and we decided that although the events at Santa Clara sounded fun, we wanted something a bit more intimate. We sent a group text to all of friends from my year and picked a time and place.

Sunday evening we all met up at Santana Row for a group dinner at Maggiano’s. We ended up eating some delicious pasta, catching up on the last five years, and reminiscing on various shenanigans that we did during our time at SCU. I ate too many carbs, laughed a lot and smiled until my face hurt. I had forgotten, as we all do with time, how much fun I really had in college with these great people.

We asked a waiter to take a photo, and although the first one we had scary red eyes and cut off some peoples body parts (Sorry Katie!) the second waiter was a much better photographer. We hugged it all out, and parted ways, hopefully to see each other again far sooner than our 10 year reunion.

(Oh shoot, now you know how old I really am..) ;]

The Ferry Building

The following day after Tiburon I took the Caltrain up to the City and walked along the Pier. Mikey and I ended up meeting up with Annie, her husband and his mother. The weather here in the Bay Area has been pretty hard to guess, with days swinging wildly from 100 to 70. That day up in the City it was closer to 100, but I had hoped that being out near the water would be cooler, but it was stifling still and hot.

We enjoyed a glorious sunset on our way back. It was so nice to have a lazy day with friends, walking around enjoying the lovely San Francisco.

When was the last day you took for yourself?

A Saturday in Tiburon

Our good family friends the Goldstein’s (Hi Jon and Mim!) invited our whole family up to Tiburon for their son’s bar mitzvah. We started out with some tasty hot drinks and snacks before heading over to the temple.

Josh did an amazing job reading, and the party later on was a ton of fun. We had a few hours free in the middle between the earlier ceremony at the temple and the dinner party. I reached out to my friend Emmie to see if she was free to explore Tiburon with me and my family during the middle free hours on that Saturday.

We ended up grabbing a fantastic lunch (get the stone fruit & burrata, or the fish tacos!)  at Tiburon Tavern and walked through downtown Tiburon, where we had unbelievably great weather.

It was sunny but breezy with gorgeous blue skies. From there we snacked on ice cream from Honeymoon in Mill Valley. We ended up walking around Mill Valley before heading over to the evening party, which was a blast.

Have you ever been to a bar mitzvah? I had never see people being raised on the chairs before, it was so cool!

Love,

-S

Being a Host and Dinner Plans

Hello Friends!

A few weeks ago my down-the-street neighbor Michelle from Tahoe came to visit me and my new little place. It was my first time hosting someone for the weekend, and she was the perfect person to host. It was kinda a busy weekend, but full of all great things for the two of us girls to enjoy. On Friday my friend Maryah came to visit me at my new school. She was my first visitor to ND and I felt so proud showing her the campus and my office and classrooms. I feel so lucky to work at a school that is so amazing, and values the arts. She brought me Starbucks, and it was the perfect start to a great weekend.

Maryah and I

Later that day, I had her and my friend Robert over for board games at the new place. We had tons of cheese and crackers and played Ticket to Ride, which is this ridiculously fun board game that I kinda want to play every weekend. #nerdlife

Game Night

On Saturday Michelle was my sous chef and we made a delicious dinner for my girls small group bible study from a few years ago. Most of us are a little more spread out (think Santa Cruz, Morgan Hill & Sunnyvale) so it’s just not easy for the 6 or so of us to meet up weekly like we used. I might have gone overboard on the appetizers, but they were all so good!
Girls Dinner Girls Dinner

Amy, Maryah & Brandy came up to my parents house for dinner. Reece’s was a great helper in the kitchen as well.

My cooking assistant

On Sunday Michelle and I had a low key day hanging out at my house, she helped me meal prep for the week. She was such a fun person to have around for the weekend, I hope she visits me again soon! (P.S Michelle, if you are reading this I hope year #2 at college is going well, and I can’t wait for more game nights in Tahoe at Christmas!)
