Brunch Parties

IMG_0115

There are only a few people in my life, that are true hostess’s. Meaning, they love the cooking, the prep, the stress and the fun of throwing a really, really, good party. My good friend A, is one of those people. Last weekend, she had an intimate brunch with just a few of us. It was a posh brunch, so I enjoyed the chance to go all out!

I loved all the decor, from the handwritten AND watercolored menu’s and food labels to the bouquets of flowers lining the table to the mimosa bar! I feel like it’s only in the last two years that a few of us have really matured in adults who throw fabulous dinner parties, and in this case, a fabulous brunch.

A is a devoted chef, and the food was the highlight of the morning next to the mimosa bar! My personal favorite was the fig and pistachio tart (pictured below!), but really everything was delicious.

And finally, the people are what make the event fun. A has a great group of friends, and that helps!

I think I might steal a few of her ideas and host my own fun brunch over the summer. What do you think of hosting friends for brunch? Any must have brunch food ideas?

Prom 2016

Last weekend we had our prom at the Mexican Heritage Plaza. I was super excited to hear that it was planned for earlier in the school year, which meant we were able to include it in our yearbook!

Prom is such a milestone event, and I feel lucky that I am able to go every year and see my students looking so beautiful. They really dress up for it, and look like little stars on the red carpet. I have the distinct pleasure of taking a few photos for it each year, and it’s one of my favorite events as a high school teacher!

All the staff typically come, and look pretty swanky themselves! This year a small group of us met up for dinner at Left Bank before.

How was your prom? Do you have fond memories of it? Would you enjoy going to it every year?

Mail Delivery

There are so many things in life that you work for: getting good grades, passing AP exams, staying up late working on college apps, walking across a stage for your high school diploma, studying your butt off in college, meeting quarterly with your advisor who still can’t remember your name, prettying up your resume for your your first job application, getting rejected and working on 100+ more resumes and cover letters, applying again for grad school and so many other small things that build to even bigger things.

Today, I got a pretty, white envelope in the mail. Holding for me, the holy grail: my master’s diploma.

So, folks, I’m here to tell you that every late night, every emptied highlighter, and used book from E-bay is worth it.

Fighting for what you want is worth it.

Master's Diploma

And it was truly perfect timing, as my birthday is tomorrow!

What’s something big that you have worked hard for?

Sunsets, Sparklers and a Night in SF

A week ago Friday, a few of my friends helped me knock off another item on my 101 list. We gathered at my parents house, lit some sparklers and tried to draw out hearts, stars and names. We were more or less successful, but we also had a lot of fun!

We have another box of sparklers left so we will do them again sometime soon! There was lots of laughing during this photo shoot (that may have hindered our ability to take clear photos!), and it was a great evening overall.

From there we went up to the city and hit up the Starlight Room at the Drake Hotel. Annie’s friend Dereck is a manager there, and always makes us feel so welcomed. This was my second time there and I swear he is ruining all other clubs for me!

I know I had a busy but awesome weekend! How was everyone’s weekend?

Did you get to do some fun things but also take a break?

The magic of Corduroy

Remember the children’s book Corduroy? I think of that cute bear everytime I say the word Corduroy.

But I’m talking more about the fabric commonly found in pants instead of the book. This season I have seen so many stores carrying corduroy pants. I picked up two pairs from J.Crew, one from Uniqulo and drooled over a pair at Tory Birch. I love the pairs I purchase, and they are in constant rotation for both work and weekend.

Why I love them:

  1. The sound they make when I walk (so good!)
  2. How soft they feel (i may pet my pants…)
  3. They come with belt loops (win!)
  4. They go well with collared shirts.
  5. They come in so many colors ( which is fun)
  6. I wear them instead of dress pants (cause who honestly likes wearing dress pants?)

Don’t you agree  that they are basically awesome (after jeans and pj’s)?!

I know it has been cold lately, so pants are still my go-to work option. I know I can wear skirts & tights, but seriously people, pants are the way to go when it is real scary cold.

I have so many cute pairs now and have been working hard not to snatch these up (i kinda want pants in every color). Instead, I am trying to focus and plan on doing things on my 101 bucket list!

It’s my first week back teaching high school and I am so looking forward to taking it easy this weekend. The Roomie and I are going wine-tasting on Saturday, which is on my bucket list!

New Year’s Eve

We were a full house for New Year’s Eve, all total I think 11. For the last two year’s we have had a tradition of having a steak for dinner on NYE. We also ate a ton of veggies and mashed potatoes. We had some cocktails, played some wii earlier in the day and just enjoyed the day together. A few of us pulled on some sparklier clothes, but for the most part it was a pretty casual evening.

I mean, after dinner we worked on a puzzle. Crazy, right?!

Monday was my first day back at work, and tomorrow we see our students. I’m looking forward to starting over with them. For the past few it has been pretty low-key, and I have been liking every minute of it. I know before Christmas it was crazy, chaotic and rushed. Having this last week and a half to recharge has been great. Sometimes you just need some you-time.

I hope your NYE was as delightful as mine was!

I’m also organising things to knock off my 101 in 1001 list. Check it out if you haven’t already!

Cranberry Cocktails, Friends, and Holiday Parties,

This past Saturday I hosted a holiday party at my parent’s house. We went to the Crucible Faire in the afternoon so I invited Robert, Annie and Alli over to help tidy the house up for the party. They were a magnificent help and in no time at all we had the place ready for a party!

We had a tasty cranberry lemon cocktail, apple and fig jam crustini’s, a cold pesto pasta salad, bread and cheese tray, cranberry walnut salad, and a shrimp fritatta. People came in their winter best, and I think everyone enjoyed themselves. Robert took the photos, and as always, did an amazing job.

Have you been going to any holiday parties lately? I love seeing how people dress up for the holidays! Finals finished on Friday (i had all my grades in Thursday!), and I can breathe again!

I am done with all my holiday shopping, and I am now looking forward to playing lots with the pups, playing on the wii and eating yummy things!

Happy Sunday!
