Thursday was a day of sunshine, wind in your face and gorgeous ocean views. We started with breakfast at Downyflake, where I had delicious doughnuts, eggs and bacon. A breakfast of champions for a busy day. My dad brother and … Continue reading
The weekend after school started my friend Kim and her boyfriend Aaron treated me to a decadent weekend in Arnold. Her Grandfather and mother have a family house in Arnold. Kim and I are long time friends, we met at our all girls preparatory middle school. Kim and I are both teachers, we love the T.V. show Suits, and are tight Snapchat buddies. In short, we have a ridiculous amount of fun together.
This summer we hung out a ton, and discussed Arnold. She had invited me to a weekend up there in middle school, and I haven’t been back since. She proposed a weekend getaway. We met up Friday after work, gassed up the SUV, put Cali the dog in the backseat with me as my snuggle-buddy, and hit the freeway.
Her Grandpa is amazing. He made so much yummy food, from pancakes before we went golfing (more on that later!) to hands down the best chicken teriyaki that I have ever had!
Saturday morning Kim, Aaron, Kim’s dad, and his best friend took me golfing. We ate tasty snacks, drank margaritas on ice, and they let me drive the golf-cart! It was gorgeous weather, nice and sunny without being too hot. The grounds were lovely, and everyone was so much fun about me not knowing all the rules. It was such a blast.
I wasn’t golfing, but I still had a great timeĀ thanks to great company and a beautiful course. Who knew golfing could be so funĀ Have you ever been nervous about something and found it more fun than you planned?

I babysit on the weekends for my pocket money, and the family just moved from Sunnyvale to where I live in Willow Glen. The parents wanted some extra time this past weekend, so they asked if I take their little … Continue reading
The last day or two of our vacation was spent in Florida. We flew back to the US and took a tour of the Everglades, and then poked about my mother’s hometown. It was great to finally see the house that my mother grew up in, and see the city that she spent her youth in. I had grown up visiting my father’s parents and seeing his hometown almost every summer but this was my first time seeing my mother’s birthplace. The Everglades was beautiful, and bursting with wild-life.
We grabbed lunch at Joe’s Stone Crab and it was the perfect finish to a fantastic family vacation. It took all day on Sunday to get back to California (3 flights again!), but it was worth every minute of the travel to have a week in the Caribbean.
I hope everyone is getting a chance to relax this weekend! You’ve earned it.

Since coming back from the Cayman Islands, I have jumped back into my busy, stressful life. Grading (and yearbook) has been a big time sink lately and I look forward to the end of the quarter.Ā I’m hoping for another week of amazing unplugged time during my next break, the first week of April.
It’s almost Friday!

The sun was warm, strong and made playing in the water that much sweeter. We snorkled most days and enjoyed hours of reading by the pool, in the hammock or on a beach towel. We checked out local places, and picked up some Tortuga Rum, Rum Cakes and other fun treats to bring back home. We munched on tasty coconut popsicles, watermelon soda and banana chips from the local grocery store in the afternoons by the beach.
The smell of fresh ocean everyday, full bellies every night and copious amounts of sleep made for a week beyond unreal. It was a week I could do every year if I could. I came back feeling refreshed, and ready to tackle the rest of the school-year.
It makes me think every break I have should feel that good. I know I struggle with unplugging, but when you do, it’s better than you can every imagine.

Two weeks ago, my family and I flew to the Grand Cayman Islands in the Carribbeans for our first family vacation in years.I had been running pretty ragged between work, babysitting and fighting a nasty cold.
I had wanted warm water, sunshine, beautiful beaches and this trip was exactly what I needed!
There were iguanas everyone, our hotel was a dream, beautiful sunsets every night and warm sunshine-filled days.Ā It was a perfect.More photos coming tomorrow.
Happy Monday! I know I swooned over some of the dresses at the Academy Awards, anybody watch them besides me?

Rather late Saturday night we moved the party to Beach House #2 (BH#2) and continued on very late into the night. I snagged a bed and crashed about 2am, rather late for this old lady who prefers 10pm sharp.
On Sunday I woke up bright and early. Often my internal alarm clock wakes me up when I would rather have slept in. I started on breakfast for the group and enjoyed watching people stumble in, semi-awake. After a while, the group was fed and drowsy. We tidied up the house, and some people took of. The smaller group left for the beach. Annie, Sunny, Huyson and I wandered along the beach, snagging cute photos of each other. We walked around the down-town area and picked up some tasty ice cream. We tidied the house and left for home.
It was a great weekend.
I wish more were like that, full of sunshine, fresh air and friends. I am so looking forward to Thanksgiving foods next week, it is powering me through this week, knowing next week will be fantastic and full of yummy foods!

Earlier in the week my best friend Annie had made a Facebook event about a few of us going to Capitola and staying at a combination of two beach houses. Work was stressful and looking forward to spending the weekend at the beach helped me keep it together. For me, having things to look forward to can often make or break a crazy work-week.
Saturday dawned, and I had not yet packed, purchased a camera charger/cord, or filled my tank with gas. Rushing around happened but Annie, Sunny and I finally got on the road after a few setbacks.
There wasn’t much traffic and we arrived in Capitola where it was beautiful. We grabbed groceries and went to the beach. The plan for dinner was cook-out at Marcos’s. We took a hot mess of photos not only at the beach, but also back at Beach House #1 (BH1)
The crew was: Brady, Sunny, Claire, Dana, Natasha, Annie, Greg #1, Greg #2, Sunny Maxey, Darius, Huyson, Steven, Deawodi, Gloria, Marcos, Irina, Jason and myself. More people came later, but I think this is everyone that was a good sport about being documented in the lovely photos above.
It was the perfect weekend: food, friends, and lots of fun.The beautiful beach never hurts as well!
Hope you had a good weekend!More fun things are planned, but this was the best fun I’ve had this month!
