Nantucket Day 5

Mopeds

Thursday was a day of sunshine, wind in your face and gorgeous ocean views.

We started with breakfast at Downyflake, where I had delicious doughnuts, eggs and bacon. A breakfast of champions for a busy day.

My dad brother and I wandered into town with mopeds on the brain. We ended renting from the Nantucket Bike Shop, where we got three bikes in no time at all.

We ended up heading out first to Miacomet Beach, and then over to Madaket. The traffic on the island is pretty slow, and the drivers were kind to us slow pokes on mopeds.

It took my brother’s long arms to get both us and the mopeds in one shot. I picked up the hang of the mopeds pretty quickly, and it was a great way to view the island at a slower pace. We zipped around for nearly 4 hours (we stopped for snacks at the Nantucket Bake Shop) before heading back to meet up with Mom. I hope to ride mopeds again on another fun trip as they were a great way to explore the island.

We picked up Mom and the car and drove over to ‘Sconset to enjoy the Bluff Walk. We started in ‘Sconset and enjoyed peeking at the houses and the views as we walked the Bluff walk, which is a public pedestrian walkway between the houses and the ocean starting in ‘Sconset and ending at Baxter Road near Sankaty Head Lighthouse.

From there, we drove over to the Wauwinet, where we had visited earlier in the week upon recommendation of a friend of my dad’s about their delish sunset mimosas.

The sunset was the best we saw all week I think! We had a cheese plate and some mimosas and called it a day. It was the perfect way to end a great day on Nantucket.

Have you ever gone mopeding? Where is the best sunset you have seen?

Love,
