Fall in Love with Fall

I personally really love Fall. I like all of the things that make the cold crisp mornings and start of a new season feel so much better. So without adieu, here is my welcome to Fall Bucket List!

Fall 2015

  • Explore a corn maze
  • Pick out some pumpkins to decorate your house with (i love the white mini-ones!)
  • Bake a pie
  • Make Chili (I love my dad’s recipe!)
  • Go apple picking (have a sunday planned to do that with my brother)
  • Make s’mores
  • Build a crackling fire and enjoy a good book
  • Decorate pumpkins
  • Smell cinnamon Candles at Bath & Body Works and try not to buy every Fall/Holiday candle scent
  • Pull out the ol’ galoshes and splash in puddles
  • Cozy up with your blankets on the couch watching the fall shows premiere ( i’m so excited for so many shows to return)
  • Go for an early morning walk in the crisp foggy air
  • Decorate your front door or porch with some cute fall decorations
  • Start planning your halloween costume
  • Start your morning with a steaming cup of tea instead of coffee
  • find and devour ALL of the candy corn

I also love October because it’s my birthday month. Even without that special date, I love everything about the summer ending and a new season beginning. This year it really felt like our California summer lasted from March to well, now! I am really looking forward to pulling out my box of mittens, hats, scarfs and fuzzy socks!

How do you celebrate fall? Do you like the cooler temperatures of the upcoming weeks or do you wish summer would stick around?

My brother’s best friend Alex is pretty much part of our family. He comes on our family vacations to Tahoe, is invited to our birthday parties and nights out in SF, and is a cool kid. He fits in so well with our (crazy) family.

Last weekend was his birthday. My brother and I joined him and his parents for a gorgeously beautiful day in the city. We started out with a tasty breakfast at Padrecito in Cole Valley in SF. I had scrumptious fish tacos. Sadly I ate them too quickly to snap a picture.

Yum, Churros!

From there we uber’d to the Academy of Sciences. I hadn’t been since high school, so it was fun to see their newer exhibits. We went into the Osher Rainforest, which is my favorite part of the museum. It’s a four story dome that houses a rainforest and an aquarium on the lowest level. You start on the ground level and slowly walk around and up looking at the tropical flora and different animals. Then, you plunge down to the aquarium level (in an elevator) and get to look at all the different animals that live in the ocean.

I particularly enjoyed the Earthquake zone where they had built a temporary exhibit where you could feel the two major earthquakes that have hit SF in the last 100 years.

On our way out we got to meet their albino alligator named Claude. He was one of the few animals that I particularly remembered from my previous visit.

What was the latest museum you visited? What was your favorite part about it?

Gloucester & Kennebunkport

After spending one short but amazing day in Boston, we jumped into our rental VW Jetta and started north. We spent the rest of the afternoon and evening in a beautiful coastal town call Gloucester. We had beautiful blue skies, brisk winds, and a gorgeous coastline at our very fingertips.

We stayed at the Bass Rocks Inn, which was truly stunning. Built in 1897 by George Stacy as a wedding gift to his bride, it is built in the Colonial Revival Style, with elegant lines and lots of traditional white paint with dark shutters. Purchased by new owners in 1946, it evolved to become a popular destination for summer visitors, including a father and daughter pair from sunny California.

My dad and I enjoyed their freshly baked cookies in the late evening as we sat in front of their outdoor fireplace with a glass of wine and took in the view.

We ended up at a small but fantastic restaurant called Market. It had a great view of Lobster Cove, and we enjoyed everything from the ambiance to my delicious pea and lemon zest pasta.

Here is a video from my SnapChat account: SisforSandy. You should add me if you haven’t already!

The next day we enjoyed the pool for a bit before hitting the road again. We drove North thru Kennebunkport and walked the town a bit.

I like their mini homage to Pont des Arts with locks on the bridge overlooking the water. It was a charming, but bustling town. The next day we explored my favorite town. More about my trip tomorrow!

Boston in the Summer Part 2

My father and I are great wanderers. We willingly peek our nosy noses into any delightful smelling bakery, any dusty bookshop, or a cute store-front. We are often far too willing to play tourist in well, practically any town! Boston, … Continue reading

Prom 2015

One of the end of the schoolyear events that I always look forward to is prom. It’s the only dance that I attend during the whole year. It’s mostly juniors and seniors that go, and it’s my favorite afterschool event … Continue reading

Gallery Wall

I’ve officially been in my cute little apartment for over a year. Yay! I realised about two weeks ago that I didn’t have a single thing on my wall, so I schedule a little bit of time with my dad to (finally!) hang some artwork.

I hung some artwork, and realized I have tons of white wall space needing some new fun, spunky artwork. I’ve been looking at things on Pinterest, Society6 and Etsy trying to figure out what all should go into the gallery wall in my bedroom and one in my living room.

These are current contenders for either gallery wall, what do you think? Any of them you love? Any of them that you hate?

101 in 1001 Progress

Recently I’ve been pretty busy juggling working full-time, my master’s classes at Santa Clara University, and babysitting on the weekends. The current quarter ends in two weeks and my last two classes will be taken via independent study. I’m hoping to have a little more free time to tackle an item or two on my 1001 List. You can see the whole list here!

In case you don’t remember, I started my list in January 1st, 2014. This summer I plan to tackle a few things on it.

Specifically:

23. Tour Hearst Castle

26. Go Paint Balling

44. Throw a Sunday Brunch

61. Purchase a bar cart. I love this one and this one.

71. Throw a costumed party (i’m thinking Great Gatsby!!)

75. Try hot yoga

88. Try a spinning class.

What about you? What’s on your life list or bucket list? Any suggestions on where to go for these few I’ve selected to tackle in the next few months?

Love,
