One of the end of the schoolyear events that I always look forward to is prom. It’s the only dance that I attend during the whole year. It’s mostly juniors and seniors that go, and it’s my favorite afterschool event with my kids.
They wear fancy dresses, get their hair and nails done to the nines, and act like they are at church with their parents and have been told they can’t get their clothes dirty. They are so awkward, and formal for about the first two hours. Then, the lights dim, their favorite song comes on, shoes are shoved under the table, and the barefoot dancing begins.
It’s a magical, mystical night where my high school kids are turned into beautiful, brilliantly happy, confident, young adults.
This is their night.
Happy Prom Class of 2015, we are so proud of you!
