Koh Samui: Sunday

Hello Friends,

After our cooking class on Saturday, we went back to the hotel to snag our bags. We took a taxi from the hotel to the airport. Due to the storm and the traffic we wanted to get there a little early to make sure we didn’t miss out flight. As luck would have it, traffic was easy and we got there a little too early. We decided to walk around the airport, and after that took some silly photos.

Our flight landed in Koh Samui and we took a taxi to our hotel The Kala. We were pretty tired at this point, as it was just after 11 our time. Annie and I had the lower floor of the villa, right by the pool. Her parents had the larger of the two rooms, taking all of the top floor.

We crashed and woke up pretty early the next morning to check out our gorgeous view. We had a tasty breakfast at the hotel, and then were off to our private tour with Nong and our driver. We started with a tour of a coconut farm, where the coconuts are harvested by trained monkeys. Annie and her mom were brave enough to allow the monkey to sit on their shoulder, but I was a little shy after the monkey made a pass for Nancy’s sunglasses.

From there we drove up the hillside to a gorgeous secret hidden garden. Built by an artist for himself and his wife, they enjoyed it until their death around forty years ago.

People soon knew of this hidden gem and would sneak onto his property to look at the waterfalls, and pay their respects to the statues. Eventually it was opened to the public and there’s a little shop at the road entrance. It started pouring at this point, so it was a little harder to explore with slippery steps. Even still it’s a stop you must make if you go to Koh Samui.

From there we drove on to a temple surrounding by water. It was serene and gorgeous. Apparently they had to create the road out to the temple out of sand and put pavement on it to little town on a former island, which still stands today as a big tourist attraction.

We stopped by this amazing pottery place where I picked up a few gifts and Annie’s mom got two gorgeous vases. It also rained a bit more.

From there we relaxed at our hotel for a bit, before heading into town for the local food festival (which is every Sunday) where we gorged ourselves on everything delicious.

All in all, a great first day on the island!

Pumpkin Patch in the Rain

Hello Friends

A few weekends ago O and I went to the Pumpkin Patch down the street from her house. It was a blustery, rainy day, but it was the time I had with her so off we went. We were all tricked out in rainboots, jackets and umbrellas cause Rain in California is no joke. Rare but usually a serious storm. I didn’t get that many pictures due to the weather conditions, but she loved helping me pick some out for my door step and my classroom for my students to draw in Visual Arts.

Now, every weekend she asks if we can go back. I wish we could kiddo! How did you prepare for fall? Did you find any decorative gourds to place around your house?

BookFairs, Starbucks, Froyo and Rain

I believe every week in December will hold something amazing. This year my alma mater had their annual December book-fair, which is something I always look forward to. Even though they have moved to a new campus, and have tons of new staff, I always enjoy coming back and seeing the few people that made my middle school years so memorable.

Our librarian Walter, is a professional story-teller and always reads a chapter or a portion of a book. This year, it was a co-telling by Walter and Esther and it was amazing.

My masters classes at Santa Clara University and work vamping up heading into a second set of finals meant most days I am burning the candle at both ends. So, I treated myself to coffee and a manicure, and to some yummy fro-yo after babysitting all day.  There’s something so decadent about taking time for just yourself, especially in the midst of the holiday chaos. It was exactly what I needed.

We had a pretty epic storm here last week, but I settled in to my itty-bitty apartment to binge-watch Gilmore Girls and eat soup! I loved every rain-soaked minute, including the tippy-tippy-tap of rain on the roof, wearing my rain-boots every day for a week, and the fresh clean scent of the air after it rains. We got some pretty gorgeous sunrises and clouds after a week of pouring rain.

Mum’s Birthday Dinner, Baking, and A New Car

Last night we celebrated Mum’s birthday. We had a delicious dinner. We started off with some avocado crostini’s.

We had Stolen Chicken for the main course. I love the potatoes and veggies that come along with it.

My Dad has been bringing in ripe tomatoes everyday from his garden. He tried a new kind this summer and they look amazing. The smell of them feels like summer is still here.

Today was a great day. I woke up and read in bed for a while with one snuggly pup (the other was at puppy class). I went grocery shopping.  The grey skies and cool weather put in the mood to bake. I started with making some chai, and then tumbled into baking some banana bread.

Robert came over and showed off his swanky new car! Its a 2013 Honda Civic. It’s beautiful! It was pouring for a while so we settled on making some carrot-cake in celebration of his new wheels.

After a while it stopped raining and I was able to snap a picture of the his new wheels! He refuses to let me take a normal picture of him, so pardon his silly faces on all of the photos.

After the flour had settled we watched something on Netflix and the other pup and I snuggled on the couch. I stepped away to gather my things and she curled up in the warmth of my spot. Isn’t she cute?
