Nantucket Day 3

Tuesday morning my dad and I walked down to a local coffeeshop, where we had discovered they made not only an excellent espresso for my father, but a sweet and strong chai for me. Not all coffeeshops have a good chair, so once you find a place, put your feet down and stay a while. The Handlebar Cafe was once of those places. While the interior was charming and comfy, the fresh air and corner garden was where we lounged the most. It had a “secret garden” feel to it with ivy winding around arbors, and small table sets. We spent most of the morning there as my brother slept off his cold.

We looked into a few stores, and walked down to the pier where all the ferries take off from. We decided to go to the Brotherhood of Thieves for lunch upon recommendation from our at home neighbor, who is now a second year college student, a far cry from the little girl I babysat and came to this island with so many moons ago. I had a fantastic pot pie (i am picky about having a flaky crust and enough filling) along with a yummy summer salad. I had never had Spindrift before, so I might have had two of those with lunch!

Spindrift

We ended up back at the house with a Redbox movie to watch and enjoyed a mellow evening at the house as a family lounging on the couch.

Have you ever had a really good chicken pot pie? Are you particular about the crustiness of your bread as well?

We woke up Monday morning a bit groggy but ready to explore the island. We gathered the family together and walked into town to get something to eat at Black Eyed Susan’s. After they had been recommended by two friends, … Continue reading

Nantucket Trip

Hello Friends! I will be doing longer posts with more photos on the various activities we did, but I created this fun short little vlog of our family trip to Nantucket two weeks ago. We had a blast when we … Continue reading

Beach Towels

I’m so excited for our beach-y week planned next week on Nantucket. Anytime I see a beach day coming on, I get excited, as time at the beach makes me really feel like summer is here!

As such, I’ve been looking for a new beach towel. I have one, but it’s looking a little ahem, ratty and faded. There are so many cute ones these day, I might have to spring for a new one!

I normally make and bring a tumbler of ice coffee to the beach, but I was reading an article and stumbled upon a fun recipe to make Chai Iced Cubes! and it tickled my fancy.

This drinks looks like just the ticket to keeping me fresh and cool on the beach, I might have to whip up a batch and tell you how it goes!

Where do you find adorable beach towels? What sort of drinks do you bring to the beach to keep yourself cool?

Life Lately

Girls Day at the Beach

So this is a few snaps from the last week! It’s only been one short week of summer, but I’ve packed a lot in.

Three beach days in one Week!
Sun Hats

A and I hitting up the beach on Tuesday. Sun hats are crucial to not ending up with a sunburnt nose!

Summer Sunsets

We’ve had some pretty amazing sunsets here in San Jose, and I tried to capture the gorgeous colors we got last week!

Capitola

We had a lovely mellow Father’s Day in Capitola with the whole fam (including the dog!) at a dog friendly beach, followed up by yummy food at Gayle’s Bakery.

How was your week? Do anything fun or summery?

T Minus 7 Days

summer 2016

We are so close to the finish line, I can smell summer! It smells like salty beach air, windswept messy hair, sunscreen, and fresh fruit.

We started senior finals today, and have underclassman finals on Monday. Graduation is in one short week. I feel like each day is long, but the week is going by so quickly!

My students have helped me start packing up my room, and I’ve had so many interviews my head is swirling. I hope to have a decision by the end of the day! I’m both dreading and looking forward to summer. I am low on sleep and energy and my fridge/house is a bit scary! I want beach days, picnics at the park, enjoying the sunshine and fresh air. I am ready for summer! I can’t wait for a day at the beach with my friends!

Do you have any fun summer plans? Anything fun you are looking forward to?

Straw Totes

Straw Totes

One thing I’ve been keeping my eye on to pick out for summer is a new straw tote. They are perfect for loading up a bunch of things for a day at the beach, or running a few errands. I found a few at different price points, that all scream summer to me! They also seem so adorable, and perfect for different summer events, like picnics, or a light summer lunch out with girlfriends.

How do you feel about straw totes? Do you have one that you use when you spend a day at the beach with friends?

Sun, Sand and the Surf

Hyannis Port

I really like the motto of working hard so that you can play hard. And for me, playing hard always means relaxing somewhere warm on a sunny beach. My 2015 resolution was to travel more, and that means regularly putting some money aside for a later date to have fun somewhere new!

Often I’m pretty busy, between working a full time teaching job, babysitting around 25 hours a week. Sometimes I’ll sneak in time for a workout, or to grab dinner with either friends or family. When at home, I’m usually washing up some dishes, trying to get a load of laundry done, finishing lessonplans/powerpoints for work and sleeping! I do tend to relax in the form of watching a show for an hour or so in the later evenings.

I usually need to block out time for a trip before I’m able to put away my endless to-do lists, and pull out a fun book! On Monday, my girlfriend and I will be flying to Maui for 5 days, and I couldn’t be more excited to unplug, and enjoy lots of down time

I’ve been on the hunt for a new bathing suit, and even though its a bit early in the season to be shopping for summer, there are tons of choices online that I’ve been eying.

So many have cute back details! I’ve been mostly leaning towards one pieces because I think they will be more comfortable under my swim shirt when I’m snorkeling.

There are so many cute choices out there! Any places that you love to score a new bathing suit? Do you prefer a one piece or a bikini?

Hello March
