On My Radar for October

Hello Friends,

There are so many good things going on right now!

Luke’s Diner [Gilmore Girls Revival]

Town Updates

I cannot wait for the release of the new Gilmore Girls episodes. It’s on my rainy day to-do list to rewatch the last season (or many three…) to prepare for the release after Thanksgiving. To hype the upcoming even, many coffeshops were transformed into mini Luke’s diners, and guys, IT HAPPENED ON MY BIRTHDAY. It’s like they knew my extreme love for this show. It was kinda a crazy day for me, so I didn’t get to make it over to one of the coffee shops (there were only 2 decorated here in the Bay) but a girl can dream! There’s also a web-page (linked from photo above) that is all about the fictional town of Stars Hollow that is also pretty darn cute.

Jackie- Natalie Portman [Movie Trailer]

I’m hoping I can convince my mom to come see this movie with me. The acting looks amazing, I’m sure the style and clothes on point, and just the history behind it is so important. Let’s make it a dinner & a movie plan, okay Mom?

Calvin Klein Trenchcoat

Every winter I get look at coats and try to pick up a new one. Usually I wear them into the ground. My mom does a great job on cleaning up whatever art messes I get on it (#teacherlife) but usually it looks like it’s been through a rough messy life by the end of one California winter in an art classroom. I’ve been looking online and I kinda love the Aubergine color, what do you think?

Gwyneth Paltrow’s NY Apartment for Sale

So I first heard about this article on Young House Love’s Podcast. They play this fun game where the husband describes multiple things in a category (some true, some false) and the wife has to guess what’s a lie. It’s great and funny and this time it was about the sentences used to describe rooms in Gwyneth Paltrow’s apartment, which is now up for sale. I love the photos, the styling of the apartment, and the excessive use of carrera marble in her kitchen. Check it out and let me know what you think of her design style in the comments below!

Pixar Short: Borrowed Time

I adore Pixar. Their ability to tell a story (for example Ellie’s life story in Up) is absolutely incredible and I saw this short recently. It is much darker than their normal shorts, but still captivating. I might have shed a tear over one particular moment. Have you seen any of their other shorts?

I still need to decorate my little apartment for fall. It was a busy first few weeks with my birthday, the freshman sleepover, Open House, grades being due etc!

How’s your October going?

Love,

-S

Turning 28

Hello Friends, My birthday fell on a Wednesday, which was pretty exciting to liven up a midweek day. My co-workers were very sweet, and got me flowers, balloons and even a chai tea latte (they know my love of chai … Continue reading

A Saturday in Tiburon

Our good family friends the Goldstein’s (Hi Jon and Mim!) invited our whole family up to Tiburon for their son’s bar mitzvah. We started out with some tasty hot drinks and snacks before heading over to the temple.

Josh did an amazing job reading, and the party later on was a ton of fun. We had a few hours free in the middle between the earlier ceremony at the temple and the dinner party. I reached out to my friend Emmie to see if she was free to explore Tiburon with me and my family during the middle free hours on that Saturday.

We ended up grabbing a fantastic lunch (get the stone fruit & burrata, or the fish tacos!)  at Tiburon Tavern and walked through downtown Tiburon, where we had unbelievably great weather.

It was sunny but breezy with gorgeous blue skies. From there we snacked on ice cream from Honeymoon in Mill Valley. We ended up walking around Mill Valley before heading over to the evening party, which was a blast.

Have you ever been to a bar mitzvah? I had never see people being raised on the chairs before, it was so cool!

Love,

A Weekend at Clear Lake Video

Hello Friends,

I had so much fun at our friend’s house at Clearlake, it was probably my favorite weekend of summer! I loved how warm it was there, which made me want to get in the water the whole time! I had so much fun in the boat, tubing and just how great everyone was the whole weekend. I snapped a few videos, so I hope you enjoy this video. Tell me if you like it in the comments, or if you want to see more videos!

Have you ever been to Clearlake? Or been to a lake house? Have you tried boating or water skiing?

SF MoMa

The city

We walked to SF Moma and the sky was so pretty!

A few weekends back, my parents and our lovely neighbors drove up to the city to meet their daughter and her beaux for an outing and dinner at their house. She invited us up to explore SF Moma, which has only recently opened in May after their 3 year long closure due to renovations. I was pretty excited to see both the building and the artwork. Although my personal artistic preference runs more to the classics, I do always enjoy seeing what’s hot in the modern art world.

The museum design with crisp and clean, with beautiful white maple floors. We explored floors in groups of two or threes.  My dad and partnered up as we were both particularly interested in two exhibits: California and the West: a photography exhibit and the Pop, Minimal and Figurative Art. I love Andy Warhol, and Chuck Close’s portraits and so I was looking forward to seeing some of their work in person.

We ended up getting a snack halfway though in their Cafe 5 restaurant, and the coconut milk curry soup I had was delicious.

I think my absolute favorite exhibit that I saw that day was called Typeface Interface, and looked critically at the role graphic design and words have played in important communication tools like subway maps, band posters and ads. Their artist statement above describes it so much if you are up for a quick read.

Have you been to SF MoMa yet? Any exhibits you’d like to look at?

Summer 2016

Hey!

Since you guys loved the Nantucket Video I made so much, I made another little montage of all the great things I did this summer. Since today is my first day with students at my new school, I created this early knowing I wouldn’t have time to write posts this week. I hope you like it!

It was one for the books, with travel, good times with friends and family! Are there any more videos I should make? Any topics you’d like to see covered?

How was your summer? Did you do anything you’ll remember in 20 years?

A wedding in Lake Tahoe

Lake Tahoe 2016

Mom and I flew back from NY into Lake Tahoe. Our dear neighbors were kind enough to drop us off and pick us up from our trip to the East Coast. We had a beautiful sunset on our drive over the hill to our house.

I had some friends from the Bay Area driving up to spend the weekend with us while they attended a wedding down near the Lake. They invited me to spend the day with them on Saturday and so we ate at an all you can eat sushi in Reno and had a ton of fun back at the house in the jacuzzi.

Kim and Aaron and their family left Monday morning, Dad, Cathy & Eduardo drove up to the house Monday afternoon. Mom and I spent most of the week with them, and I drove my little Prius home Thursday as I had to return to normal life and babysit. It was a sleepy week in Tahoe, we played board games a ton with our down the street high school & college neighbors, who are pretty cool kids. I also finally got a chance to use the kayaks with Cathy and Mom out on the lake, which was great and I can’t wait to get back out there on the water again.

I always come back from Tahoe well rested and relaxed and happy.

Do you have a place that you can “turn off” your brain at?

Sharon Springs, NY

This gallery contains 6 photos.

After a few days in Pittsburgh, Mom and I drove our little rental car up to Sharon Springs NY to visit my cousin Jeannette. The drive was pretty quick, 6 hours later and we were in a different state. This … Continue reading
